How to Read Your Meter

A typical water or electric meter has four or five dials which are read left to right.  Each dial represents a digit of your reading.  The dials alternate in the direction in which they turn (one clockwise and the next counterclockwise).  Only white dials are used to calculate billed usage.

To read the dial, just choose the lower of the two numbers that the pointer is between.
